Magaluf is Mallorca’s original pie and a pint resort. It still is the flagship resort for promoting Mallorca to the world as a destination for cheap package holidays. The resort is one of Spain’s top mass tourism destinations and it competes with Benidorm and Ibiza as one of the best places to go in summer for extensive nightlife. The clubs in Magaluf are very well known by clubbers throughout Europe and some of Great Britain’s top DJs turn up here for short stints during the peak season. Magaluf is the centre for holidays of sun, sea, sex and discotheques.

Platja Magaluf is magnificent with its glorious sand and fine, clear water. There are small kiosk bars set up along the beach playing great music.

Platja S´Arenal is probably the most famous but also notorious beach on the sunshine-island. It is divided between the municipalities of Llucmajor and Palma de Mallorca, known as well as Platja de Palma. It is near Palma Airport, enjoys good road communications, and has regular public transport links to the city of Palma as well as to the airport. Because of this good infrastructure a quite place where you can get away from it all can not be expected. In addion, this area has the greatest concentration of hotels on Mallorca and even the entire Mediterranean! This crowded tourist resort, which has a vast number of hotel rooms, spreads along the 4,600 metre-long S´Arenal Beach, at the eastern end of the Bay of Palma. There is a wide promenade running along the entire stretch of coastline, which is the nerve centre of S´Arenal. This is where the popular balnearios – a series of outdoor bars numbered from 1 to 15 – are located, serving both the beach and the promenade. Amongst these, number 6 is very popular with Germans and is known as Ballermann 6. This is the very starting point for S´Arenal´s nightlife, and there are many open-air biergartens in this area. Everything in S´Arenal revolves around tourism and leisure, with a wide range of bars, restaurants, a water park, nightclubs, shops, rental outlets for cars, motorbikes and bicycles, travel agencies, and sporting activities such as tennis, diving centres, water-skiing, windsurfing, golf, etc. Of note amongst the sporting facilities is the sailing school at Club Nàutic de S´Arenal, which has given a real boost to dinghy sailing on Mallorca.

Services: bars; restaurants; shops; showers; sun loungers, parasols, pedal boats and sailboards for hire; water-skiing; volleyball nets, etc.

Camp de Mar is a place to go to only if you really want to get away from it all. It lies just 3km south of Port d’Andratx on a beautiful winding road through pine forests. In the centre of the resort there are two impressive hotels, the Riu Camp de Mar and the Playa Camp de Mar. Behind the Riu is a street with a handful of bars and restaurants.

Platja Camp de Mar is a small sandy beach sheltered by the nearly vertical walls of a rocky cove on its eastern side. On the west side it is sourrounded by the sea. The views across the turquoise waters towards the villas overlooking the bay are spectaculous. A pedestrianised walkway allows for a pleasant stroll along the seafront.

Services: bars; restaurants; sun loungers, pedal boats and parasols for hire

Deià is a small, charming village located on the north-east coast of Mallorca, in the mountain range of the Serra de Tramuntana. It climbs up a hill, from where visitors have a great view over the land and sea towards the horizon. It was exactly this spectaculous view which attracted artists from all over the world and Deià has become one of the most-visited spots on Mallorca. Tourism in Deià draws in a select brand of visitor to its hotels, with additional visitors coming to stay in numerous holiday homes. It has an interesting selection of wonderful old-fashioned craft shops.

Platja Cala Deià is a pebbly beach situated at the point where the Torrent Major flows out to sea. It is 70 m long and 15 m wide. Although it is quite uncomfortable to lie there, it is a fine spot for swimming.

Service: Two restaurants

Platja S´Illot ( also known as Cala Moreia ) is 350m long and 35m wide and very popular during the summer months.

Cala Millor is a large tourist resort on Mallorca´s east coast. It is divided between the municipal districts of Sant Llorenç and Son Servera. The resort spreads along the coast occupaing a fair section of the bay on which it lies. Cala Millor itself has more than 25,000 tourist beds in hotels and apartment blocks mostly located right on the sea front, with a pedestrianised zone behind them. Many tourists come to these hotels year after year to enjoy their holidays on Majorca together with their family and friends.

Cala Millor´s main attraction is its long beach, the Platja Cala Millor, being nearly two kilometres long with a promenade running its entire length. Because of the mass tourism and its crystal-clear waters, Platja Cala Millor is one of the island´s busiest beaches in summer. The construction of hotels and apartments directly next to the coast has destroyed the dunes that used to be there, and this has caused problems in the natural regeneration of the sand, meaning that sand has had to be artificially regenerated.

Services: shops; restaurants; bars; lifeguards; public showers; sport facilities; sun loungers, parasols and pedal boats for rent.

Palma Nova is a favourite holiday resort for a lot of tourists. It is a built-up area being a tourist operator country with large hotels and vitually no private accomodation owners just 15 kilometres west of Palma. Palma Nova offers what it does best, good value package holidays.
The Platja Palmanova is divided into three bays. The first beach to the east is Platja de Carregador which is next to the resort’s small marina. The flat ‘Passeig Marítim’ is the pedestrianised walkway which overlooks the sea and stretches the whole length of the resort’s three beaches.

The sandy and very spacious beach is south facing and extensive with areas of palms for summer shade. Swimming in the clear sea is often possible here right out of season until late October.

The Platja Cala Major is a small golden beach situated closest to Palma’s west end. It is well protected from the cold wind from the north, making it an ideal spot for swimming during the cooler periods of the year. The beach is overviewed by the Palacio Marivent, the official residence of the Spanish Royal Family, who frequently make an appearance on the island. Platja Cala Mayor can be reached via the street of Carrer Gavina, very close to which is a bus stop. It is a little bit difficult to find the right way to this beach but therefore Cala Major is not crowed because most tourists go further afield.

Services: bars; restaurants; shops; sun loungers, parasols and pedal boats for hire.
