New Year's Eve in Mallorca - Information and Tips

By Richard Hanke, updated on

Would you like to celebrate New Year’s Eve in an exceptional way? With a warmer climate than in cold Germany and with new traditions? Then, Mallorca is a very interesting destination to spend the end of the year.

The main gathering points for ringing in the New Year are the Town Hall Square and the Parc de la Mar in Palma. At exactly midnight, grapes are eaten with each chime here. After each grape, you can make a wish for the upcoming year. The bells chime a total of twelve times. To attract even more luck in the new year, Spaniards often wear red underwear on New Year’s Eve.

Fireworks and firecrackers are not as common in Spain as they are in Germany, but for some time now, a beautiful fireworks display has been held at the port of Palma. Numerous restaurants offer gala dinners on New Year’s Eve. Anyone who wants to keep the party going afterward will find company in various nightclubs and bars. In particular, at the many venues in the port, the party is guaranteed.

New Year’s Eve with spring-like temperatures: The weather in Mallorca during New Year’s Eve is quite stable, though it might rain. Daytime temperatures range between 59 and 68 degrees Fahrenheit, while at night they drop to 43-50 degrees. Unlike the gray winter days in Germany, in Mallorca, the impressive almond blossom begins in mid-January, which is definitely worth seeing.

It’s also worth seeing the massive outdoor party around Plaza Cort at the Town Hall with live music. Many of Mallorca’s residents also celebrate here before heading to the numerous nightclubs in the city after midnight. Just before midnight, Palma becomes unmistakable:

  • In unison, the people of Mallorca – like all Spaniards
  • eat a grape (lucky grapes) with each of the twelve chimes of the New Year.

With the first second, the real party also begins, which extends into the early hours of the morning. Additionally, the spectacular fireworks display in the Palma harbor starts promptly at midnight.
