Market in Inca - The largest market in Mallorca

By Verena Gemmel, updated on

The largest weekly outdoor market in Mallorca is held every Thursday from 08:00 to 13:30 in the center of Inca.

Variety of products offered

From Placa José Antoni to Carrer Bisbe Llompart, African farmers and merchants sell, in addition to local products like wine, fruits, vegetables, and crafts, imported electronics and textiles. Mostly at low prices, as this weekly market is primarily aimed at the masses of tourists.

Caution with leather products

Although Inca is known as the city of leather and many leather factories have endured, it is important to be mindful of counterfeit foreign-made products being sold in the market. Since 2013, the weekly market in Inca has offered a more organized range of products than in previous years.

The local handcrafted products, such as leather goods and ceramics, have their own area, making it easier for tourists to distinguish between authentic and counterfeit items.

Covered market and traditional wine cellars

Those who care about the quality and origin of their food should also visit the covered market in Inca on Carrer Miquel Duran. Here you can find fish, meat, fruits, and vegetables from the region. It is also located in the old town and is open from Monday to Saturday in the morning. Despite the abundance of souvenirs and imported textiles, tradition is not lost: at the farmers’ market with animal displays on Calle Sant Francesc, cows, chickens, sheep, and horses are traded.

The authentic Mallorcan atmosphere is finally brought by the rustic wine cellars, the so-called “Cellers.” They are widespread across the island and are especially appreciated by the Mallorcans themselves, who value these ancient wine cellars and their hearty homemade food. That’s why, in Inca, after visiting the market, it’s no different from other markets in Mallorca. Following the saying “After the market, comes the market,” the Mallorcans sit together in the numerous bars and enjoy their beer accompanied by little treats.
