In the Nuevo Pueblo Español (New Spanish Village), you can tour three Spanish cultural metropolises in less than an hour. In this “Spanish village,” famous monuments from the country have been gathered.
In 1967, architect D. Fernando Chueca Goitia recreated 23 architectural masterpieces in the form of a small village in Palma de Mallorca, scaled down and constructed using traditional techniques and materials.
Map and Location
The Nuevo Pueblo Español is located in Palma de Mallorca, in the Son Espanyolet neighborhood, near the city center.
Whether it’s a town hall, a palace, or a plaza, whether in Mudejar, medieval, or baroque style: on a surface of 26,500 m², you can take a journey through around 2000 years of Spanish architectural history. It’s like the Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, but instead of famous figures, here you find important buildings.
When seeing the Torre del Oro in Seville or the Casa de El Greco in Toledo, you almost forget that you don’t have the original in front of you. After two hours, you leave the Spanish Village through the Puerta de Bisagra in Toledo, as if you had taken a wonderful stroll through all of Spain.
In Pueblo Español, events are held throughout the year. In addition to an outlet fair and Oktoberfest, the popular Christmas market is organized annually, also among Spaniards.
A short trip through Spain in the New Spanish Village
Toledo
Grand and majestic, it anchors itself in a sea of tourists: the famous Puerta de Bisagra. I feel small as I look at the stone eagle that imposingly adorns the facade like a coat of arms. But that is how it should be. The gate was built to welcome Charles V. A medieval fortress, confident in its victory, that awaits its enemies.
Granada
“This is the Court of the Myrtles, also called the Court of the Myrtles, one of the most famous courtyards of the Alhambra,” I hear a guide say, almost without an accent. It’s enviable, I think. How many times must he have strolled through this paradisiacal place? A World Heritage Site come to life! Slender marble columns, intricate decorations, sophisticated water features: welcome to the Orient.
Córdoba
In the Plaza de los Capuchinos, I let myself fall into one of the wicker chairs. “A café con leche, please.” I gaze, fascinated, at a tall wooden cross, surrounded by nostalgic lanterns covered in thorns. If it weren’t for the welcoming whitewashed houses and the warm rays of the sun, the famous “Christ of the Lanterns” would seem truly unsettling to me. Mystical Andalucía at its best.
