In Peguera, in the picturesque southwest of Mallorca, you can find everything a tourist’s heart desires: sun-kissed beaches and a variety of culinary delights right at the hotel’s doorstep. This place particularly attracts package tourists who enjoy spending the day on the beach and tasting the local cuisine.

Peguera, with its relaxed atmosphere and not overly urbanized landscape, offers the ideal vacation spot for families, couples, and solo travelers. In this holiday destination, you can relax in the sun while also embarking on exciting excursions in the surrounding area.

Map and Location

Peguera is located on the southwest coast of Mallorca, in the municipality of Calvià. This holiday destination is about 24 kilometers southwest of the capital, Palma de Mallorca.

About Peguera

Peguera, formerly a tranquil fishing village, is particularly known among German tourists for its welcoming atmosphere and beautiful surroundings. Officially called Peguera, this vacation destination is characterized by moderate construction, far removed from the high-rise hotel complexes of other tourist spots.

Interesting fact:

Peguera derives from the Catalan term for “tar kiln,” indicating the historical significance of the region for tar production from the numerous pine trees.

Peguera is known for its welcoming atmosphere and easy access to a wide variety of both aquatic and land activities. At this resort, you can enjoy the sun on the beach, stroll through souvenir shops, or savor local specialties at one of the many restaurants.

The German presence is unmistakable, from the menus to the shops, which has led to the place being affectionately nicknamed “Little Germany”.

My Highlights of Paguera

My time in Peguera was filled with unforgettable moments, but three experiences stood out in particular:

  1. Beaches: With Platja Palmira leading the way, the beaches of Paguera offer pure enjoyment of the sea and are perfect for sun lovers. Here’s my tip: visit the small hidden beach Cala Fornells early in the morning. The tranquility and peace you’ll find while swimming there are unmatched.
  2. Paguera Boulevard: This promenade is the vibrant heart of Paguera, a paradise for those who enjoy strolling and dining. Don’t forget to visit the Schwarzwald Café (known for the show ‘Deutschland die Auswanderer’). Treat yourself to a piece of Black Forest cake—a flavor experience you shouldn’t miss.
  3. Hike to the Torre del Cap Andritxol: An adventure for nature lovers. The hike offers spectacular views of nature and ends at a historic watchtower. It’s perfect for quietly enjoying the stunning landscape and its special atmosphere.

Who is Peguera suitable for?

Peguera, this sunny corner of Mallorca, is perfect for the package tourist seeking sun, sea, and easy access to hotels and restaurants. Especially for Germans, Peguera is a little piece of home under the Spanish sun—a place where both young and old, families with children, and couples can enjoy the perfect blend of relaxation and activities.

The beaches, with their gentle, child-friendly access to the sea, are a paradise for families. I’ve experienced it myself: children build sandcastles in the bay while parents relax or enjoy the numerous water sports offerings.

But Peguera has another side: when the sun sets, the place comes alive. Spots like “Krümels Stadl” and the “Rendezvous” nightclub are the go-to places for those who want to dance and party until the sun rises.

In short, Peguera caters to everyone: a place where both those seeking relaxation and adventurers find their happiness.

In Peguera, I felt as if I had found a little piece of Germany under the Mallorcan sun.

What is the best time to travel?

Peguera, with its mild climate, welcomes visitors all year round, but the months from May to October are considered the best time to travel, especially for those who want to enjoy the warm sea and the sun of Mallorca at its best. This period offers perfect conditions for beach lovers and water sports enthusiasts.

The less crowded months of May, June, as well as September and October, are ideal for taking excursions—such as to the Torre del Cap Andritxol—and exploring the island in a more relaxed atmosphere.

The Torre del Cap Andritxol is also very popular among children.

Even in the off-season, Peguera retains its charm. The pleasant temperatures and fewer tourists make it an ideal destination for visitors looking to escape the cold in Germany and experience the quieter side of Mallorca.

However, in winter, Peguera seems deserted. There are hardly any hotels or restaurants open during that time.

Activities and places of interest

After getting to know Peguera from all its angles, here are my personal favorites in the area for those planning to spend their vacation there:

  1. Hike to Cala Fornells: This trail not only leads to hidden coves with crystal-clear waters but also to the legendary pirate tower, Torre del Cap Andritxol. Up there, behind a small mysterious door, one could easily imagine how Rapunzel would let down her long hair. It’s a magical place that stimulates the imagination and especially brings joy to children.
  2. Caló d’en Monjo: Along the same route that takes hikers to the enchanted pirate tower, this treasure is hidden. This picturesque spot, with its clear and inviting waters, not only offers an oasis of tranquility but is also linked to an interesting story. Here, the famous Agatha Christie movie “Evil Under the Sun” was filmed in the 1980s, making it an exciting destination for film and history lovers.
  3. Diving and Water Sports at Platja Palmira: The clear blue waters are a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. Here, you can explore the underwater world or venture on the surface while paddleboarding.
  4. Natural Reserve La Reserva Puig de Galatzó: In addition to stunning hiking trails, the reserve delights visitors with waterfalls and the chance to discover native flora and fauna. It’s an excellent place for those who enjoy nature and want to experience something new without straying too far from the beach.

Weekly Market in Peguera

A visit to Peguera wouldn’t be complete without a stroll through the weekly market. Every Friday, the Boulevard of Peguera transforms into a bustling market where local producers offer everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to handmade jewelry and leather goods. It’s the perfect place to immerse yourself in the local culture and maybe find a souvenir or a gift.

In addition to typical Mallorcan products like olive oil and Flor de Sal, you can also try traditional sweets. A highlight is the vendors offering handmade Ensaimadas. This typical Mallorcan pastry comes in various versions: from plain to filled with sweet cream or chocolate. Don’t miss out on this specialty!

Beaches in Peguera

Peguera is known for its beautiful beaches, which guarantee every visitor unforgettable days by the sea. Platja Palmira, one of the most popular, offers soft sand and crystal-clear waters, ideal for families and sun lovers.

And finally, for everyone who wants to make their Instagram feed shine: a sunset at Platja de Tora is a must. The golden light gently stretching over the water creates the perfect photo, and perhaps also the perfect moment where one might wish time would stand still.

Advice:

Don’t forget to check out Platja de la Romana, a quieter alternative to the more well-known beaches, where you can enjoy the turquoise water and picturesque surroundings almost in solitude.

Restaurants

In Peguera, you can find everything from traditional Mallorcan dishes to international cuisine. A must-visit spot is “Bei Hermine“, known for its authentic German specialties: a piece of home under the Spanish sun.

Personally, I’ve developed a little tradition. On every visit to Peguera, I always head to Essbar. This small German restaurant is located right next to Red Rubber Duck, Krümels Stadl, and Schwarzwaldcafé. They serve delicious fish sandwiches and other really good dishes at fair prices.

Those who wish to explore the local cuisine shouldn’t miss “Casa Luis“, where fresh fish and seafood go straight from the sea to your plate.

For a special evening, I recommend the “Ventura.” With its elegant atmosphere and a menu that celebrates modern Mediterranean cuisine, it’s the perfect spot for a romantic dinner. Let’s not forget that the Boulevard of Peguera is full of cozy cafes and bars where you can end the day with a glass of sangria or a freshly brewed coffee.

Events

In Peguera’s events calendar, the “Tourist Festival” stands out, particularly at the end of September, honoring visitors with live music, street performers, and a spectacular fireworks display. This festival lights up the sky over Peguera and celebrates the community of guests.

Furthermore, in the summer, outdoor movie nights attract culture enthusiasts, who can enjoy classic and modern films under the stars—a perfect opportunity to make the most of the warm nights.

The Oktoberfest in Peguera is an event that brings a piece of Bavaria to the heart of Mallorca. For two weeks in October, the town transforms into a little Bavaria, where one can enjoy Bavarian specialties and German beer in a festive atmosphere. Traditional outfits like Lederhosen and Dirndl are not just a fashion statement here, but an integral part of the celebration that brings a touch of German culture under the Mallorcan sun.

Nightlife

When the sun sets, the nightlife of Peguera comes alive, offering a variety that will feel familiar to visitors from Germany. “Krümels Stadl” is the ultimate meeting point, known for its lively nights that invite singing and celebrating. Those who want to dance to the latest hits or classics will find their second home at the “Rendezvous” nightclub, with music that invites everyone to the dance floor.

Avinguda de Peguera: A vibrant boulevard with shops and restaurants in a picturesque setting.

For a more peaceful end to the day, the Bulevar de Peguera offers numerous bars where you can relax with a nicely chilled beer or an exquisite cocktail. These places exude a welcoming atmosphere that invites you to stay and chat with friends or make new acquaintances. You can even enjoy a Kölsch beer here.

Tip: For lovers of Spanish cuisine and cocktails, Tapas Bar Eucaliptus is a must-stop. Known for its excellent tapas and cozy atmosphere, it’s the perfect place to experience Peguera’s local nightlife.

How to get there

To reach Peguera, there are several options. From Palma de Mallorca Airport, which is about 30 kilometers away, you can take a taxi, rent a car, or use public buses. The A11 bus line offers a direct trip to Peguera, which is very convenient. If traveling by car, the Ma-1 highway leads directly to the destination. This coastal route makes the journey an experience in itself.

From Palma, you can also quickly reach Peguera via the Ma-1, which means a journey of about 20 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic. One way or another, Peguera is easily accessible and welcomes every visitor with open arms.

In Peguera, you can even park for free. In the center of the area, there’s a parking lot, although it tends to be crowded during peak season.

Living in Peguera

Amid the traditional facades painted white, life unfolds at a pleasant pace. Although the place welcomes visitors in the summer months, it manages to maintain a warm and inviting atmosphere. While there isn’t traditional village life, the locals manage to create their own bubble, independent of the hustle and bustle.

For me, Peguera is proof that a place can be both lively and peaceful. Property prices remain reasonable, which is surprising compared to places like Puerto Andratx or Camp de Mar.

This makes Peguera an attractive choice for those looking for a place in the sun without breaking the bank. A place where you can feel like you’re on vacation all year round and, at the same time, at home.

The Surroundings of Paguera

A rental car is the key to experiencing this area in all its splendor. Reliable rental companies can be found on-site, making it easy to access the surrounding nature and culture.

A short journey takes you to Santa Ponsa, where, away from the bustling center, you find the Cruz de la Conquista on a promontory—a monumental cross erected in honor of King James I. Not far from Peguera, the hiking area La Reserva reveals an impressive diversity of Majorcan nature. With more than 200,000 square meters, it encompasses bizarre rock formations and stunning waterfalls that invite exploration.

The Serra de Tramuntana, a majestic mountain range stretching along the northern coast of Mallorca, offers extensive routes for hiking and biking adventures.

From Peguera, it’s just a step towards adventures that intertwine like the best memories of a perfect vacation.

Conclusion

Peguera is a small haven under the Mallorcan sun. Although there’s little left of the fishing village, it combines the charm of the Balearic Islands with a touch of “Little Germany” and offered me the perfect blend of beach relaxation and cultural and culinary experiences. For those planning a vacation that is both relaxing and full of experiences, I recommend Peguera as a destination.
