By Verena Gemmel, updated on

Palma Aquarium is the deepest aquarium in Europe and is located directly on Playa de Palma. The record-breaking tank, Gran Azul, holds 3.5 million liters of water. In total, Palma Aquarium has 55 tanks. 8,000 marine animals and around 700 different species swim in them.

Stunning beauty and dazzling colors

From seahorses and anemones to rays and moray eels, from butterflyfish to tiny threadfish and corals.

The diversity and dazzling colors are endless. The walk around the aquariums is nearly a kilometer long. “Palma Aquarium” brings visitors closer to the stunning beauty of the underwater world.

In the middle of the ocean without diving equipment

From the left, a nearly two-meter-long shark approaches the visitors. Just an arm’s length away, it stops and reveals its teeth. Above people’s heads, a school of fish swims in circles. It feels as if you are in the middle of the ocean, surrounded by a protective bubble of oxygen. This almost close encounter with more than 200 sea creatures is made possible by a glass tunnel that runs through the mega tank “Gran Azul.”

Flora and fauna recreated with precision

Additionally, amateur biologists can learn a great deal: the marine ecosystem has been precisely recreated in the aquariums. “Palma Aquarium” showcases an extraordinary selection of flora and fauna from the Mediterranean, Indian Ocean, Atlantic, and Pacific. The operator is “Coral World International.”
